Massa's sheer speed could not be rivaled by Lewis Hamilton, who finished second for McLaren-Mercedes. Controversy surrounded Massa's pit stop during lap 37 after which he was released illegally into the path of Force India's Adrian Sutil. The issue of costs versus technology will continue to be a major issue over the next few years and one suspects F1 in 2011 will look nothing like it did in 2009. So, what will 2009 ultimately produce I'll say Renault and BMW both give McLaren and Ferrari a run for their money. For me, there is a great motivation in beginning a new era without Fernando, and proving that the strength of Renault is about more than one person. The people saying we will not continue our success in 2007 are the same ones who said we had won the title in Canada, or that Ferrari had won by Monza. To save money and make passing more plausible, the cars of the 2009 season will look nothing like those of the 2008 season.

This clean slate means the teams cannot just continue to develop the 2008 cars. The golden ray of hope for the team is Ross Brawn, who did some magic at Ferrari. It is very difficult to win the Formula 1 championship.
